Wreck Alley’s roasted malt character pairs well with the grilled steak, and the coffee rub enhances our imperial stout’s espresso & chocolate flavors. Opening in February of 1989, Karl Strauss Downtown became the first brewery to open in San Diego in more than fifty years. Located blocks from San Diego’s city center, this historic brewery location is where Master Brewer Karl Strauss brewed the first batches of his namesake Amber and our World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival medal-winning Red Trolley Ale. The original onsite microbrewery remains in full operation, consistently producing a series of rotating special release brews to pair with our West Coast pub fare.
