brings balance to big hops. Exploding with tropical aromas and bright citrus hop flavors, this is not your average pale ale. Pintail Pale Ale rides a fine line ̶– intensely hoppy, yet has just enough malt backbone to keep it totally drinkable.
Sustainably-farmed cornmeal-crusted catfish, ranch steak fries, spicy cucumber and jicama crudo, and Tabasco aioli.
Pintail’s bright citrus flavors are a natural complement to seafood. The beer’s dry and hoppy finish cuts though the cornmeal-crusted crispy catfish (say that 3 times fast), while its malt backbone intermingles with the cooling cucumber and jicama. Karl’s hosting a good ol’ fish fry and you’re invited. Cheers, y’all.

Opening in February of 1989, Karl Strauss Downtown became the first brewery to open in San Diego in more than fifty years. Located blocks from San Diego’s city center, this historic brewery location is where Master Brewer Karl Strauss brewed the first batches of his namesake Amber and our World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival medal-winning Red Trolley Ale. The original onsite microbrewery remains in full operation, consistently producing a series of rotating special release brews to pair with our West Coast pub fare. In addition to our drink beer, think food approach to beer and food pairing, Karl Strauss Downtown features 10 craft beers on tap, brewery tours, and a knowledgeable staff of craft beer enthusiasts.
