We’ve been working out our Mussels for beach season, and they pair perfectly with Mosaic Session Ale. The briny flavors of the ale-steamed mussels are a great contrast to Mosaic’s dry, citrusy finish. The beer’s hop bitterness cuts through the rich lemongrass broth and stands up to the spicy chorizo.

Opening in February of 1989, Karl Strauss Downtown became the first brewery to open in San Diego in more than fifty years. Located blocks from San Diego’s city center, this historic brewery location is where Master Brewer Karl Strauss brewed the first batches of his namesake Amber and our World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival medal-winning Red Trolley Ale. The original onsite microbrewery remains in full operation, consistently producing a series of rotating special release brews to pair with our West Coast pub fare. In addition to our drink beer, think food approach to beer and food pairing, Karl Strauss Downtown features 10 craft beers on tap, brewery tours, and a knowledgeable staff of craft beer enthusiasts.
