Conscientious use of both water and energy is paramount to our brewery operations, and we have wholly invested in optimizing these processes to reduce our carbon footprint wherever we can. It’s part of who we are and our core identity. To us, words are empty without action, and we stand behind our actions. That’s why we use sustainable, recyclable packaging for all of our beers. As for our spent grain, we proudly provide it to local farmers to use as feed for their livestock free of charge.
IN OUR BREWPUBS
We are proud to be certified by the Surfrider Foundation as Ocean Friendly Restaurants.
We are committed to protecting our oceans, waves, and beaches! In our brewpubs, you’ll find:
Proper recycling practices at all times
Reusable foodware for dining in customers
Disposable utensils for takeout orders, only upon request
Paper straws only offered upon request
No plastic bags
Oh yeah, and our menus are printed on 100% recycled paper, too! Because we like trees.
IN OUR COMMUNITY
Back in 2013 we founded our first ever Green Team, a committee of team members tasked with overseeing environmental efforts and education for the company. Our Green Team’s focus is both big and small. They oversee our participation in Surfrider’s Ocean Friendly Restaurants program, organize our beach cleanups, host Lunch & Learns, and are an additional resource for team members in general. It’s not just about the brewery being more environmentally conscious, it’s also about our team members being so in their everyday lives.
Our commitment to being a sustainability-focused company also means going beyond the walls of our brewery and brewpubs, and personally contributing to causes we believe in. We regularly support local grassroots non-profit organizations based in San Diego through a combination of fundraising and participation, such as I Love A Clean San Diego and the San Diego River Park Foundation. One of our favorite ways we put action behind our convictions is to come together for our annual beach clean up in partnership with Surfrider San Diego.
