Since opening our doors in 1989 as San Diego’s first craft brewery, Karl Strauss has always believed that craft beer is about more than what’s in the glass. It’s about bringing people together.
From the earliest days of San Diego’s craft beer movement, breweries have served as gathering places where people can meet, share a meal, discover something new, and connect with the community around them. More than three decades later, that same idea continues to be an important part of who we are at Karl Strauss.
Whether its friends meeting for a beer at one of our brewpubs, neighbors gathering for a local event, brewers coming together to collaborate on something new, or longtime fans introducing someone to their favorite Karl beer, we’ve always seen craft beer as something meant to be shared.
That’s why we’re excited to bring another community focused event to our 4S Ranch Brewpub this October.
On Saturday, October 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Karl Strauss is partnering with Amazing Strays Rescue for Pups & Pints, an afternoon dedicated to craft beer, local businesses, adoptable dogs, and supporting an organization doing meaningful work in the San Diego community.
When Karl Strauss Brewing Company opened in Downtown San Diego in 1989, the craft beer landscape looked very different than it does today. There wasn’t yet the expansive network of independent breweries, tasting rooms, beer festivals, collaborations, and neighborhood gathering places that San Diegans now know and love.
Over the years, that community grew.
Breweries became places to gather, local beer became something San Diegans could rally around, and collaboration helped shape a craft beer culture built on creativity and connection.
We’re proud to have grown alongside that community.
Today, our brewpubs continue to give us an opportunity to create spaces where people can come together. Sometimes that means meeting friends for happy hour. Other times, it means celebrating a birthday, watching a game, trying a new beer, attending an event, or simply grabbing dinner with the people who matter to you.
But we also believe those spaces can be used to connect people with the organizations, small businesses, and causes that make our communities stronger.
Pups & Pints is an extension of that idea.
For Pups & Pints, we’re teaming up with Amazing Strays Rescue, a San Diego-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs in need find safe and loving homes.
Through rescue, rehabilitation, fostering, and adoption, Amazing Strays works to give dogs another opportunity to find the right home while connecting animals in need with people throughout the San Diego community.
That mission made them a natural partner for an event built around bringing people together.
Pups & Pints gives our community an opportunity to learn more about Amazing Strays and the work they do while spending an afternoon at the brewpub. Most importantly, guests will have a chance to meet adoptable dogs looking for their future families.
You might come for a pint and leave having met your new best friend.

On October 10, our 4S Ranch Brewpub will bring together several different parts of the San Diego community for an afternoon that offers a little something for everyone.
Amazing Strays Rescue will be on-site with adoptable dogs, giving guests an opportunity to meet some of the pups currently looking for homes and learn more about the adoption process.
Throughout the event, guests will be able to participate in raffles, with opportunities to take home prizes while supporting the spirit of the event.
And because it wouldn’t be Pups & Pints without the pints, we’ll also be offering all-day happy hour at our 4S Ranch Brewpub.
Grab a beer, explore the vendors, enter a raffle, meet some pups, and spend the afternoon connecting with other members of the community.
