We have a longstanding tradition of supporting our local community, a core value instilled by the late brewmaster, Karl M. Strauss. In honor of Karl’s lifetime commitment to community service and education, we established the Karl Strauss Brewer’s Education fund in 2009—created to help aspiring brewers pursue an education in brewing science. We’re proud to partner with the UC San Diego Extension Brewing Program to fund an annual scholarship through the Brewers Education Fund to help educate San Diego’s next generation of talented, local brewers. Our most recent recipient was Jenny Freeman, an avid homebrewer who decided to turn her passion into a career.
“Winning the scholarship through Karl Strauss is letting me learn from the most experienced brewers and industry leading professionals,” says Jenny. “There’s nothing better I could ask for.”
In addition to providing a scholarship opportunity, our Brewmaster Paul Segura regularly teaches classes in the UCSD extension program and at the San Diego State Professional Certificate in the Business of Craft Beer program.

PINK BOOTS SOCIETY & EMPOWERING WOMEN IN CRAFT BEER
In both 2014 and 2015 we teamed up with Pink Boots Society, the international organization that focuses on empowering female beer professionals to advance their careers through education, to offer an Education Package Scholarship for San Diego State University’s College of Extended Studies “Business of Distribution” Course.
We also maintain an active presence in Pink Boots throughout the year and have proudly participated in International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day, donating profits from each release back to the organization.
