Karlfest is our take on Oktoberfest done SoCal style—live music, tons of beer, and great food. After 5 years at our main brewery in San Diego, we moved the party up the coast to our Costa Mesa Brewery Restaurant in Orange County. In addition to Karl Strauss beers, the event featured beer from Orange County breweries including Backstreet Brewing Company, The Bruery, Pizza Port San Clemente, and Tustin Brewing Company. And in keeping with the local theme, three bands from Orange County took the stage at the event: The Union Line, Aushua, and Satisfaction.

As in years past, Karlfest was a great chance for us to give back to the local community. Proceeds raised from Karlfest were used to support the Surfrider Foundation. Over $2500 was donated to the South Orange County and Newport Beach chapters

Karlfest is our namesake event for our late Master Brewer, Karl Strauss. Karl passed away in 2006, but his passion for brewing lives on through the legacy he left with us and many others in the brewing world. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Karl M. Strauss Brewers Education Fund—a scholarship fund established to help fund the education of aspiring brewers in Southern California.

In addition to being a great beer event, Karlfest is also a chance for us to give back to our local community. As a company, we have supported the Surfrider Foundation for many years and we are pleased that Karlfest 2008 will directly benefit two local chapters of the Surfrider Foundation--the South Orange County and Newport Beach chapters.
